What Is A Photo Shoot Like?

Every photo shoot with a professional photographer is different. Some will pose you the entire time, some are in studios, some are purely documentary. My goal is to make this a very comfortable experience where you truly have fun with each other, and with me! So you can describe my style as a mix of documentary, but with some posing thrown in there to help.

I know photo shoots are scary! It can feel very vulnerable to be in front of the camera. So to start, I always have you interacting with each other while I help you pose. That way you aren’t staring right at the camera, and you aren’t wondering what the heck to do with your arms. From there, we’ll get more comfortable with each other and you’ll start doing your own thing. You can bring me to your favorite spots while I’m looking out for cool lighting!

Being natural together and being yourselves makes for the best photo shoot! If you go into a shoot in the place you love, thinking about your favorite things about each other, then it’s easier to get those meaningful photos.

Choosing Outfits.

  • Pick out clothes that you are comfortable in - physically, but also mentally!

  • Stay away from neon colors, they’ll reflect off your face in photos.

  • Stay away from logos (unless they’re the main part of your shirt) they’re distracting!

  • Stay away from crazy patterns, because they’re distracting and can do crazy things with your background, and you’ll start to blend in with your surroundings.

  • Bring a lint roller if you don’t want your pet hair in photos.

  • Check that underwear line.

  • Have fun with your clothes!

What Is A Photo Shoot At Home Like?

Don’t worry too much about making your home perfect - my photography is mostly documentary, so I love to photograph the real.

For the most part, I will work with natural window light, because using too many indoor lights can create odd lighting in photos. So I’ll try to be working near windows, and turn off most of the lights when I arrive.
