Making Your Shenandoah National Park Elopement Legal and Official

If you don’t already know, Shenandoah National Park is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Its location is absolutely jaw-dropping. However, Virginia just so happens to be the hardest state to get married in. In some places you can legalize your own marriage and sign your own marriage license, but here you need someone more official to make this happen.

For this reason, I am giving you the best tips and tricks for making your Shenandoah National Park Elopement Legal and Official while still having the elopement day of your dreams!

FOUR TIPS FOR LEGALLY GETTING MARRIED
IN SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK

ONE | START AT HOME

I recommend getting married in your own state/country before traveling to Shenandoah National Park. If you are worried about the “headache” of it all, this is the best option for you!

Once you are legally married, you can head to the park and read your own vows or even have a friend “un-officiate.”

TWO | LOCAL COURTHOUSE WEDDING

Before you head to The Park, swing by the county courthouse! I recommend going to the Page County one since it is where one of the park entrances is located.

THREE | HIRE LOCAL OFFICIANTS

Find a local officiant willing to hike so they can take care of the legal process! Here are two of my very favorites: Rev. Kate Adamson and Dave Norris. These two officiants actually officiate most of the elopement that I capture, because they’re willing to wake up for early sunrises or hike to the prettiest summits!

FOUR | HAVE A FRIEND MARRY YOU

If this option interests you, get a day pass at the local courthouse! This allows one of your family members or friends to legally marry you (and turns into really meaningful ceremonies full of tears and laughter).
